Action is part of the company’s Ichthyofauna Management and Conservation Program, with the objective of repopulating and guaranteeing the diversity of fishes of native species

CTG Brasil, one of the leaders in clean energy generation in the country, released 1.068 million fishes of the species curimbatá, pintado and pacu, in the reservoirs of Ilha Solteira and Jupiá Hydropower Plant, on the Paraná River.

The releases, carried out over the last few days at various points in the region, are part of the Ichthyofauna Management and Conservation Program, promoted by CTG Brasil with authorization from the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), with the aim of repopulating and guaranteeing fish diversity through the production and release of native species.

The fishes used in the repopulation program are produced at CTG Brasil’s Fish Farm, in Salto Grande (SP). In the laboratory, besides fish production, research is developed in partnership with universities.

“The release of fishes of native species is a way to collaborate with the development of these ecosystems, ensuring reproduction and fish stock,” explains Norberto Castro Vianna, Environment Specialist at CTG Brasil.

Since 2016, when the company took over the management of the program, approximately 25 million fishes have been released, in the basins of the Paraná and Paranapanema rivers.
