CTG Brasil neutralizes carbon emissions from the 2025 tour of the Chinese National Ballet

10.15.2025

CTG Brasil, one of the country’s leading clean energy producers, presents, through the Incentive Law, the 2025 Brazilian tour of the National Ballet of China. One of the world’s most prestigious companies arrives in Brazil for performances in Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo with the production “GuoNian,” a celebration of the Chinese New Year, set to the iconic music composed by Tchaikovsky and commissioned by choreographer Marius Petipa in 1892.

The sponsorship of the event is integrated into the company’s social investment strategy, aligned with the Cultural Diversity and Relations between Brazil and China pillar and environmental stewardship. CTG Brasil will neutralize 100% of the carbon emissions from the 2025 Brazilian tour of the National Ballet of China.

The 318 tons of CO2 equivalent from international transportation, domestic travel, and accommodations for the artists and production team on the tour account for approximately 18% of CTG Brasil’s total emissions in 2024. These will be offset through the acquisition of carbon credits certified by international standards, such as the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), managed by Verra (verra.org/). These credits, sourced from the certified reforestation and environmental preservation project in the Amazon basin, REDD+ RESEX Jacundá, ensure the neutralization of the tour’s estimated emissions, contributing to greenhouse gas mitigation and reinforcing CTG Brasil’s commitment to sustainability.

“The Brazilian tour of the Chinese National Ballet is an initiative that goes beyond art and cultural rapprochement between Brazil and China. This season is also a commitment to sustainability. All carbon emissions from the performances will be offset by CTG Brasil, in partnership with GSS Carbono e Bioinovação, reaffirming the company’s strategic role in the energy transition. Each performance celebrates not only tradition, dance, and music, but also care for the planet and the future of future generations,” says Ronan Max Prochnow, Sustainability and ESG Manager at CTG Brasil.

The Chinese National Ballet – Guonian, Chinese New Year
The Chinese National Ballet tour includes performances in Brasília (October 6), Rio de Janeiro (October 9-12, at Cidade das Artes), and São Paulo (October 16-19, at Teatro Bradesco).

Choreographed and directed by Zhao Ming, Guonian is a visual celebration that unites the tradition of European classical ballet with the symbolic richness of Chinese culture. Renowned for his skill in integrating Eastern and Western choreographic languages, Zhao Ming imbues the work with a refined and contemporary artistic signature. His inventive and delicate approach is essential to GuoNian’s aesthetic impact—an explosion of colors, shapes, and movements that promises to enchant both dance admirers and audiences of all ages.

With over 60 dancers on stage, exuberant costumes, and grandiose sets, the show transforms a European Christmas into a vibrant Chinese New Year celebration. In this unique production, the story is driven by Tchaikovsky’s original score, now set in a traditional Beijing fair on Lunar New Year’s Eve. Symbols such as the twelve zodiac animals, red lanterns, and creatures from Chinese folklore transform the classic into an enchanted journey between reality and dream.

The Brazilian tour is presented by the Ministry of Culture and CTG Brasil, sponsored by SPIC Brasil, produced by Dellarte, and produced by Gaia and the Ministry of Culture – Union and Reconstruction, with support from the Rouanet Law – Incentive for Cultural Projects.
