Company professionals presented safety procedures in eventual emergency situations during periods of floods and droughts

CTG Brasil, concessionaire of the Garibaldi Hydroelectric Power Plant, held a meeting last February 7th, in the municipality of Abdon Batista (SC), to present the Emergency Operation System (SOSEm) and the Emergency Action Plan (PAE). The objective was to share with public bodies and the community the set of safety rules and procedures in eventual emergency situations.

Carried out in partnership with city halls and municipal civil defenses, SOSEm deals with the technical, organizational and administrative aspects of hydroelectric plants, with the purpose of guaranteeing the operational safety of the reservoirs during periods of droughts and floods. In addition to considering the safety of riverside communities, the system takes preventive and corrective measures necessary for the integrity and safety of the plants.

During the meeting – open to the community and to which representatives from the City Hall, City Council, Civil Defense, Firefighters, Military and Environmental Police are invited – the operation of the plants in dry or rainy periods is approached in a didactic way. The aim is to ensure the operational safety of dams and communities.

“Promoting alignment between CTG Brasil, public authorities and communities in these regions is a way of preparing ourselves for extreme periods and demonstrating the seriousness of the reservoir operation process, thinking about everyone’s safety and also explaining the characteristics of the Brazilian energy sector. It is a preventive action, above all”, explains Fernando Antonio Sestari Filho, Operation Engineering manager.

The meeting also addressed the implementation process of the Emergency Action Plan (PAE), which aims to guide the population on safety procedures in risk areas.

“It is important to highlight that the PAE is preventive in nature. All the plants operated by the company are safe, considered low risk and operate within the provisions of the Dam Safety Law”, says Pedro Nunes, manager of Civil Engineering and Dam Safety at CTG Brasil.

Bulletins and Telecheia

For the flood period, CTG Brasil sends daily bulletins to municipal entities and other registered publics in the event of higher than normal flow forecast at the plants.

The company also offers Telecheia (0800 770 2428), a service that operates 24 hours a day for information on flows.
