Preservation of biodiversity

Care for the environment is one of our priorities.

Our initiatives go beyond meeting legal requirements and aim to apply environmental management committed to the communities in which we operate.

Discover some of the actions we have developed.

Forest Restoration

Forest restoration is one of the main ways we contribute to the recovery of areas surrounding our operations. In this work, we favored connection areas that allow existing stretches of forest to be interconnected, providing the formation of corridors for the flow of wild fauna. Along the Paranapanema River, which flows through eight of our Plants, almost seven thousand hectares have already been reforested, the equivalent of seven thousand soccer fields.

Forest Promotion Program

We support individual or community forest restoration projects in the Paranapanema River Basin. We provide free quality seedlings, with genetic and floristic diversity of native species, in addition to technical subsidies for the implementation and maintenance of reforestation, in order to increase the native tree cover in this region. Since 1999, we have distributed over 3.5 million seedlings in 78 municipalities in the states of São Paulo and Paraná, helping to restore more than 2,330 hectares in over 1,250 properties. This initiative allows rural properties to adapt to the environment, covering different types of permanent preservation areas, providing the formation of legal reserves.

Ichthyofauna Management and Conservation Program

To ensure the diversity of fish in our reservoirs, we maintain a fish farming station at Salto Grande HPP, with 54 tanks occupying an area of 20,000 square meters. We produce baby fish, better known as alevins in it. Based on this work, we released fish of native and regional species, authorized by Ibama, in several rivers that flow through all our Plants. Every year, around 3.6 million fishes are released. The fish species released (pacu, piracanjuba, curimbatá, piau three pints, dourado) in the reservoirs, in addition to being regional natives and occupying different ecological niches, are valuable for fishing for the neighboring community.
