With the construction of the Serra da Palmeira Wind Complex in Seridó, Paraíba, CTG Brasil, one of the country’s leading renewable energy producers, has been driving income generation and employability in the region through a series of partnerships and socioeconomic development initiatives. The company’s strategy includes training residents and entrepreneurs from the municipalities of Picuí, Baraúna, Nova Palmeira, São Vicente do Seridó, and Pedra Lavrada.
Two key initiatives stand out, both developed in partnership with Sebrae and Senai of Paraíba. Together, they aim to boost local commerce, qualify the available workforce, and foster regional economic growth by strengthening CTG Brasil’s supply chain.
“CTG Brasil believes that investing in people is just as important as investing in infrastructure. That is why we reaffirm our commitment to the economic and social development of the regions where we operate, leaving behind a legacy of positive transformation that goes beyond generating 100% clean and renewable energy,” explains Luis Fernando Lisboa Humphreys, Senior BoD Manager at CTG Brasil.
Strengthening commerce and small businesses
Through a partnership with Sebrae of Paraiba, CTG Brasil has been working to professionalize and provide technical support to local entrepreneurs and small businesses, helping them expand their operations and strengthen the regional economy. Training sessions were carried out throughout 2024 and will continue into 2025, covering technical, financial, and commercial aspects. Topics already addressed include corporate finance, women entrepreneurs, local tourism guides, among others.
“Our goal is to provide new knowledge to local business owners and community groups so they can boost their businesses and income beyond the Wind Complex, thus promoting a socioeconomic legacy in the region,” details Ronan Max Prochnow, CTG Brasil’s Sustainability and ESG Manager.
According to Marcílio Sousa, Regional Manager of Sebrae of Paraiba in Araruna, more than 80 micro and small businesses were supported through consultancy services in the first year of the partnership with CTG Brasil.
“In the second phase, in 2025, the focus will be on entrepreneurial education for young people, strengthening local tourism potential, gastronomy, and initiating awareness campaigns for the Geographical Indication of Picuí’s Carne de Sol. We will also further empower women entrepreneurs, working in an integrated way to foster local development with sustainability, education, and innovation. The aim is to increase competitiveness and create an environment that encourages the emergence of new small businesses while strengthening existing ones. Our work is aligned with market trends, ESG principles, and the demands of the new economy,” he explains.
Workforce qualification
Another strategic front for CTG Brasil is workforce training, developed in partnership with Senai of Paraiba. The initiative offers technical and vocational courses in areas defined by the company’s Renewables teams and by the construction firms responsible for implementing the Serra da Palmeira Wind Complex. The goal is to prepare the local population for the demands of the renewable energy sector, facilitating student entry into the labor market.
The program is expected to benefit around 800 workers and has already contributed directly to many participants being hired by partner companies involved in the construction of the complex.
Commitment to social development
The training programs are part of a broader set of social initiatives carried out by CTG Brasil in Paraíba since 2022, which have already impacted thousands of people. In addition to income generation and professional training, the company also supports projects in education, culture, sports, community strengthening, and public management. In total, there are 17 social projects in the state, with investments exceeding R$13.9 million, making a real difference in the lives of more than 9,200 people.
Among the investments planned for 2025 are programs such as “Usina de Negócios”, which supports cooperatives and rural production groups; “Fazendo a Diferença”, focused on engaging women who are heads of households; and music and sports education projects, such as “Musicou” and “Futebol de Rua.” All initiatives are based on participatory diagnostics carried out with the community and are aligned with the company’s sustainability strategy.
